Celtic on the verge of signing Ange Postecoglou as their new boss

The former Socceroos boss is linked with the biggest managerial move in Australian football history.

Celtic

have been without a permanent coach since they parted ways with

Neil Lennon

in February. The club are reportedly on the verge of signing

Ange Postecoglou

as their negotiations with

Eddie Howe

have fallen through. The Sottish Premiership side confirmed on Friday that they will not appoint Howe as their new coach.

“We can now confirm that Eddie will not be joining the club, for reasons outside both his and Celtic’s control,”

the club said in a

statement

.

Postecoglou is currently coaching the J-League side

Yokohama F. Marinos

. He has previously won the Asian Cup with Australia in 2015 and the J-League title with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2019. If Postecoglou takes charge at Celtic Park, it would be a historic move for Australian football.

Kevin Muscat

and

Tony Popovic

have spent brief spells in Belgium and Greece, but Australian coaches have always struggled to work in European football. The next Celtic manager will be tasked to regain the club’s dominance in the Premiership.

Steven Gerrard

’s

Rangers

ended Celtic’s nine-year run in the competition this season as the Hoops struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.
