Rangnick to become sporting director at Schalke amid Germany job links

Ralf Rangnick, one of the options to become Joachim Low’s successor at the Germany national team, has been in talks over his return to Schalke this time as sporting director.

Goal

and

SPOX

learned that although both sides have held talks, there is no agreement in place yet.

The 62-year-old is currently out of work after leaving his role as head of sport and development at

RB Leipzig

last year.

Rangnick

has twice served

Schalke

as manager and led the club to a DFB-Pokal glory and a German Supercup.

The Bundesliga side have ruled out an agreement between the club and Rangnick over his possible return.

“The supervisory board will not give any opinion on possible or traded candidates, which in principle will remain so,”

read a

statement

.

“The committee made it clear, however, that reports that there was a ‘preliminary agreement’ between FC Schalke 04 and Ralf Rangnick or his advisor are not correct.

“Regardless of what happens, Ralf Rangnick is and remains a highly valued expert and a welcome former Schalke coach.”

Schalke are currently sitting at the bottom of Bundesliga with only 10 points from 24 outings and 11 points adrift of safety, so bringing someone like Rangnick would be a boost for the club.
