Paul Scholes: Henderson should have kept 'the ball out of the net'
The Red Devils legend insists that the goalkeeper should have stopped AC Milan’s header in the final minutes of the game as he put the blame on Henderson for the Man-Utd’s 1-1 draw.
Paul Scholes believes it was
Dean Henderson, who allowed
Simon Kjaer’s header to get into the net, leaving
Manchester Unitedwith a 1-1 draw against
AC Milan.
Despite
Amad Diallo’s efforts to give the lead to the Red Devils, his goal was eventually thwarted by Milan’s equalizer and according to Scholes, the
Premier Leagueside could have won the game if it wasn’t for Henderson’s mistakes.
After seeing the goalkeeper’s failure in conceding the goal, Scholes told
BT Sport:
“He should save it.”
“I think he's trying to make it a little bit more difficult than it should be.”
“First and foremost keep the ball out of the net. He should save that, there's no doubt about it, he'll know that.”
In return Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to blame his goalkeeper for their draw as he hoped to see a better game at San Siro.
“I've seen him [Henderson] save them, but it's the structure that we lose. We dropped too deep and we get blocked off and they get the header on,”
he said.
“We should have attacked the ball with the men we had there.”
Alongside being impressed by Diallo’s goal in the 45th minute of the game, Scholes also commented on
Diogo Dalot’s defending skills on the pitch and the possibility of his return to Old Trafford, saying:
“He does seem a really good lad, speaks well.”
“He's done the right thing to get games at a big club. That will do him the world of good.”
“He played in an unfamiliar position, on that left side, but even his crossing with his left foot was brilliant. I thought defensively he did everything he had to do.”
“Where does he stand now? I think he'll come back at the end of the season.”
“Pre-season will be big for him. It's time for him to really perform in those pre-season games. Put a bit of pressure on [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka.”
“He's different to Wan-Bissaka. We know what a great defender Wan-Bissaka is. I think he's got more quality going forward. It's just a decision for the manager and what he wants.”
