I proved the doubters wrong - Calvert-Lewin

The Everton star is happy to be able to prove himself in the Premier League.

Everton

striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin claimed that playing in Premier League was exciting for him and praised the rivalry with Harry Kane.

Calvert-Lewin joined Everton in 2016 with £1.5m from Sheffield United. Many initially believed he was not at the level of Premier League quality and could not become a great striker. However, he scored 13 goals last season and this season, while 11 games remains from the league, he equals his previous season record. Now he spoke of the joy and excitement of playing in the Premier League.

"It does motivate me, to prove people wrong, even to this day,"

Calvert-Lewin told

Sky Sports

.

"I think it's important that you use it as a motivation and a source of inspiration to become better and prove to people that you are who you are, and you deserve to be where you are.

"I have always believed that I belonged here and belong where I am today and that with the work rate and the desire to keep achieving and getting better I would eventually get to this level. I am proud of myself for overcoming adversity.

"No matter how good you are, or what level you get to, there's always going to be people that don't think you are very good or have their opinion to say. So for me, I take it in, and I quite enjoy it now. I feed off it more than anything."

Calvert-Lewin should score more goals to compete with Harry Kane for the place in England National team. He added:

"I think I want to become more rounded, I want to keep honing my skills and fine-tuning the qualities that I have. And scoring more goals - every striker wants to score more goals.

"For me, when I don't score goals, it's about affecting games like I have been doing more often than not.
