Deans: “People acknowledge Najjarine is great and they target him”
Craig Deans, Newcastle Jets’ coach, was disappointed after Ramy Najjarine sustained an ankle injury which keeps him out of action for Sunday’s clash against Wellington Phoenix.
coach
Craig Deans
is keen on putting an end to the situation that has ruled
Ramy Najjarine
out of the clash against
Wellington Phoenixon Sunday. According to Deans, the attacking midfielder’s injury was the result of the rivals pushing to cancel his influence out.
"
People acknowledge he's a good player and they target him,
" Deans said.
"
He'll miss another week or two now so he misses four games through injury and it's not soft tissue injury, it's kicks to the ankle from tackles and I think that's disappointing.
"We need to protect players that are going to bring something to the game and we lose him again for the next couple of weeks so it's disappointing."
The 20-year-old played for 62 minutes in his side’s 1-0 victory over
Melbourneon Sunday before suffering the injury. The Jets have had their fifth consecutive unbeaten game as they get prepared to face Phoenix. Najjarine’s replacement will be Luka Prso, according to Deans.
"
A different type of player to Ramy, so he can pose a different problem for Wellington from the first game,
" Deans said.
"
It's disappointing for Ramy not to be there but the stability is there with Luka coming in.
"
Wellington are sitting rock-bottom on the
A-Leaguetable and their latest defeat was against Victory on Wednesday.
Ufuk Talay
, Phoenix’s coach, revealed that David Ball and Tomer Hemed have come back from suspension and injury and Hemed may feature on Sunday.
"
The game of football is about confidence. If you win a couple of games in a row, the confidence builds and that's what we need at this stage,
" Talay said.
"
We need a win on the weekend to build that confidence
