AC Milan boss Pioli admired Tomori after derby match against Inter

AC Milan manager, Stefano Pioli was impressed by Fikayo Tomori, despite ending up losing a full-blooded derby match against Inter.

Tomori

moved in AC Milan four days ago from Chelsea and was given a baptism of fire as he entered a Coppa Italia quarter-final which will stay for long in the memory at San Siro.

After being substituted for the injured Simon Kjaer, Tomori saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic open the scoring before going head-to-head with Romelu Lukaku and being sent off in the second half.

Tomori couldn't get a more eventful start to life in Italy but

Pioli

was happy with how the 23-year-old handled the situation.

“He did well,”

Pioli

announced.

“He came in during a difficult match, and he had arrived only a few days before and trained with us only twice.

“I think he showed good things. He can defend very well and he is a smart lad, very focused, and eager to learn.

“He arrived in great shape, mentally, physically, and technically, and he wants to learn our football as soon as possible.”

The result from the derby match is still continuing. Ibrahimovic and Lukaku had seemingly avoided more punishment for their on-pitch fight, although both received suspensions. However, the Italian FA has now decided to investigate more into the incident.

Despite their exit from the cup, Milan are two points clear of Inter in second at the halfway stage of the season.

They are now improved by the return of midfielder, Ismael Bennacer to their matchday team players, with the Algerian international having been out with a muscle injury.
