Real Betis starlet Diego Lainez tested positive for Covid-19

Real Betis have declared in a club statement that Diego Lainez has contracted the Coronavirus in the routine tests executed on the senior team's squad on Thursday.

Lainez is healthy, quarantined at his home in Seville, and following the safety measures set up by the health authorities,

La Liga

, and the club.

On Thursday, the test yielded an uncertain outcome, so today, the Mexican has been exposed to new tests that affirmed the underlying COVID-19 positive result.

The diagnosis is particularly baffling for the 20-year-old and Betis, given how significant he's been to their excellent performance so far. They're unbeaten in 2021 and got through to the quarter-final of the

Copa del Rey

after thrashing Real Sociedad 3-1 this week.

Lainez joined Betis on a €14m contract in January 2019 and took as much time as needed to adjust to European football after a fruitful period with Mexican side America. However, his talents and qualities are emerging from the shadows. He could be Los Verdiblancos' breakout star this year.
