Matheus Fernandes getting ostracized from the Barcelona squad

Since arriving from Palmeiras for a €7m plus €3m fee last January and after an unsuccessful loan spell at Real Valladolid, the 22-year-old has been given very little game-time in Ronald Koeman‘s team.

His time at

Valladolid

was limited due to bureaucratic issues and a coronavirus diagnosis as the Brazilian only made three appearances for Pucela.

After returning to Catalan giants, he found himself on the transfer list of the Blaugrana, where he decided to stay and fight for minutes. However, a hamstring injury kept him out of action from the middle of September until the end of October.

The midfielder now finds himself behind La Masia graduate,

Ilaix Moriba

, in the pecking order as the 18-year-old has started ahead of him in the Copa del Rey at

UE Cornella

. Seven La Liga appearances as an unused substitute and substitute appearances against

Dynamo

Kyiv

,

Fernencvaros

, and

Juventus

in the Champions League were the summary of his

Barcelona

career so far.

It’s yet to be seen what lies in his future during this January transfer window.
