Schalke eyeing Huntelaar reunion after initially moving for Ibisevic

The Netherland international is Schalke’s plan B if they fail to sign Vedad Ibisevic.

Schalke

are currently in 17th place on the Bundesliga table and are trying to avoid relegation with their new coach

Christian Gross

. The Gelsenkirchen side are willing to strengthen their squad in the current transfer window and are keen to add a forward to their ranks.

Bild

in Germany has reported that Schalke are interested in moving

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

back to his former club where he is the second goal scorer of the club’s history with 126 goals.

However,

Goal

and

Spox

have found out that Schalke’s first priority is not Huntelaar and they are currently eying

Vedad Ibisevic

for a potential transfer. The club terminated the player’s contract weeks ago but are keen to get him back for the remainder of the Bundesliga season. Huntelaar is currently the club’s second choice if they fail to work with Ibisevic again. The Netherland international has previously announced his retirement at the end of the season but when asked about his possible turn back on that decision, he said:  "Never say never".
