Ter Stegen admits Barcelona aren’t good enough despite Huesca victory

Ter Stegen’s heroics and De Jong’s valley provided the Blaugrana a narrow 1-0 win at rock-bottom Huesca.

Frenkie de Jong’s

first-half volley proved to be the match’s only goal as

Ter Stegen

kept Huesca’s

Rafa Mir

from scoring the equalizer through the host’s several chances in the second half.

Although the 28-year-old keeper believes

Barcelona’s

display was better than their showing in

Eibar’s

draw, he believes his side needs to get better.

"For 35 minutes we did very well, we played very good,"

Ter Stegen

told the club's official website.

"We had a lot of possession, we pressed them high, when we lost the ball we were directly right in front of them to keep on going. We made it very difficult for them to come out from the back.

"We have to improve, that's what I think, overall in the last minutes so that we don't suffer as much. I think it's not needed.

"But we won the game which is very important and we move forwards."

Then

Ter Stegen

went on to praise

De Jong

, who scored his second La Liga goal of the season. The Dutch midfielder joined

Barcelona

from

Ajax

for a €75 million deal in 2019.

"I'm super happy for him, it's not that often that he scores,"

he said with a laugh.

"I hope he continues like this, and for me and the whole team it's nice to have a clean sheet for the restart and I'm really happy for us as a team."

The 23-year-old midfielder hadn’t the toughest thing to do with a tap in from the goal area as

Messi

provided a pinpoint assist. The midfielder gave the credits to the Argentine, he said:

"Especially in games like this when they close a lot and they are going backwards, all of their team almost, it's important to make these runs into the box as a midfielder.

"Leo gave me a great pass and I could score."

Asked whether scoring the club's first goal of 2021 holds significance for him,

De Jong

said:

"I try to score a bit more but I don't think it means something, no."
