Spurs legend Jimmy Greaves honored with MBE
Jimmy Greaves has been recognized with an MBE in the New Year honors list for his services to English football.

will be inducted along with former midfielder
Ron Flowers
; both Greaves and Flowers were also members of the England squad who won the 1966 World Cup. They are the last two members of that 1966 squad to receive an
MBE
.
Greaves scored 44 goals in 57 appearances for his country, but an injury in the 1966 World Cup group stage led him to lose his place in the team. Replacement Geoff Hurst went on to score a hat-trick in the 4-2 final win over West Germany.
He joined
AC Milan
in 1961, but despite continuing to score a lot of goals he did not settle in Italy and returned to England with Tottenham before the year was out.
The 80-year-old is
Tottenham
's all-time record scorer, with 268 goals in 379 appearances between 1961 and 1970, winning two FA Cups and a European Cup winner’s Cup.
He moved to
West Ham
in 1970, but he began to struggle with alcoholism.
