Gestede set for bench in the season opener against Brisbane

Melbourne Victory’s new signing Rudy Gestede will start the season starting the match against Brisbane Roar from the bench.

Melbourne Victory

will start without key striker and new signing

Rudy Gestede

for their season-opening clash with

Brisbane

Roar on Saturday evening, with the Frenchman likely to start on the bench and possibly get minutes later in the game.

The 32-year-old striker arrived later than his new team-mates and has been training for just 8 days after completing quarantine, so Victory boss Grant Brebner does not want to take any chances with his fitness.

"

He's come in later into the group and I want to protect him,

" Victory coach Grant Brebner said.

"I don't want to expose him just yet because he is an asset to me and the club.

"It would be foolish to put him in there straight away."
