Hulk lacks ‘right spirit’, says Vitor Pereira

After a spat that may have brought Hulk’s time at the club to a bad-tempered close, the Shanghai coach claimed that he lacked the “right spirit”.

Vitor Pereira

ruled out

Hulk

for the second time in a row in a 4-0 defeat to

Sydney FC

which were already eliminated from

AFC

Champions League

.

When Pereira was asked about Hulk on Tuesday, he was candid about the 34-year-old forward who has totted up 100 Chinese super league appearances and captained them to the domestic title in 2018.

"I want the players with the right spirit to play," the Portuguese said after the Sydney defeat. "This is my decision (not to play him) and that is why he is not here."

Hulk’s contract expires at the end of this year.

The Brazilian player joined Shanghai from

Zenit St. Petersburg

in 2016 with a contract of €55.8 million which was an Asian record.

He posted a picture of himself when he was training on Monday with the caption:

"Physically I'm strong, but psychologically I'm even stronger."

SIPG is through to the knockout phase in the Champions League, which is being played in a bio-secure "bubble" in Doha.
