The absence of Joe Gomez impoverish the back

With the long absence of Joe Gomez, Premier League champions Liverpool have been more impoverished at the back.

Gomez was injured during England training session against Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

Premier League champions Liverpool is currently without Virgil van Dijk because of a knee injury the centre-back sustained in the derby against Everton last month.

Full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will also be out nearly a month for his calf problem he injured in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

The absence of Gomez would leave Jurgen Klopp severely impoverished at the back.

He is hopeful that Fabinho, who had filled in at centre-back, will be able to come back soon after his recovery.

There will be an analysis based on Opta data from Liverpool's top-flight competitions since Van Dijk's first appearance in January 2018.

No tight defence, more points

In the Premier League competitions Gomez has qualified in since Van Dijk's bow, the Merseyside giants have won 43 out of 56 and lost just four.

Klopp's men have had an average of 0.8 goals without Gomez.

With the presence of Gomez, the Reds have had a victory percentage of 76.6.  On average, they gained 2.5 points while the former Charlton man performed and 2.4 when he has not.

Suitable pair: Gomez and VVD

For the 52 matches, Gomez and Van Dijk have played in together, Liverpool's victory percentage is 76.9. It was 74.5 when one or both has not been present.

There is not a specific difference in the number of goals achieved.
