The first leg of the 2020-21 Europa League quarter final fixtures was not only worth watching, but also a must-watch round in the competition, as we got to see some of the teams brilliantly performing against their rivals. The Spanish side are surely motivated to fight for their progression into the semifinals after winning a tough first leg against the Croatian side. But Dinamo Zagreb will also be doubly motivated to complete a comeback in the second, so everything is still on the table and anything can happen.

The Croatian side actually did come pretty close to scoring a goal early on in the first leg, but luck was not with them and they were destined for a 1-0 defeat at home, from which they will now have to come back. Unfortunately for Dinamo Zagreb fans, the club’s captain Adrijan Ademi has recently suffered a foot injury, becoming the third player in the club’s roster to be unavailable for the return leg in Spain. This will definitely add to the problems that Dinamo are already facing, but Dinamo defender Rasmus Lauritsen believes that they still do have a full 90 minutes left to play in Spain and that they are more than capable of completing a comeback. Because that is football and they did in fact get to do the very same thing against Tottenham a while back.

Manchester United v Granada

Having won four of the last five league games, the Red Devils managed to beat their former manager Jose Mourinho’s team with a dominant scoreline. Ole Gunnar Solskajer beat tottenham 3-1 to boost his team’s morale and also spark so much controversy with the help of the Special One.

Mourinho was furious over the Norwegian manager’s comments on Heung-Min Son and his behavior on the pitch, which led to him criticizing Solskjaer’s claim on not giving Son any food if he were his own son. But we digress. We are here to talk about the Europa League and about the Europa League we shall talk. United managed to beat Granada in a fairly routine manner in the away leg, which has certainly given the Premier League side the advantage over a relatively weaker side.

Of course as we have seen in the previous rounds of the competition, anything is possible and Granada could manage to complete a dramatic comeback to equalize the game and go through after the extra times and even the penalties. They might even manage to pull of the same epic win that Dinamo Zagreb managed against Tottenham as the Croatian side beat Mourinho’s team 3-2 with an absolutely brilliant comeback.

Granada might actually be hopeful of a comeback of sorts if the odds have anything to say aout it. Manchester United have in fact gone three games without a win at home in the European competition, losing one and drawing the other two. But aside from all seriousness, will we have another streaker in the game between the two sides just like the first leg?

Roma v Ajax

Perhaps many are betting that

versus Ajax is going to be the most intense game of them all. The Italian side managed to snatch an early and crucial away victory against Ajax to make it 2-1 on aggregate going into the second leg of the quarterfinals. Ajax will have to be at their very best if they are to have any chance of equalizing and even outscoring the opposition to go through to the semifinals.

Of course they did have significantly better stats in the first leg against Roma. They had more than double the shots, with even more than double the number of shots on target, yet it was Roma who scored double the goals against Ajax. Hoping you excuse our poor repetitive rhyming, we can see that the Eredivisie side had a much better passing accuracy and had almost complete possession of the ball in the first leg, obviously playing with a much higher intensity.

Ajax will certainly need a bit of luck to complete a comeback as everything is still up for grabs for both sides in the return leg. Will Roma’s Fonseca stick to the 3-4-2-1 formation against Ajax? Or will he park the bus even deeper to hold off the opposition for the full 90 minutes to go through with the same scoreline?
