Best Egyptian footballers of 2020, who might they be? If you are already familiar with African football, you can easily tell that Mohamed Salah of Liverpool is surely on the list of Top 10 Egyptian Football Players of 2020, but what about the others?

Telling the top 10 Egyptian football players of 2020 might not be an easy task since there are a number of top Egyptian players playing in their own country’s top-tier league or in other professional leagues across the globe.

In this post, however, we have chosen most of the

top 10 Egyptian football players of 2020

from among those players who play in major European leagues; players who have actually made their way to the top of the world football through their talent, skill, and abilities; players who could, for sure, be called the biggest Egyptian football stars of 2020.

Who are the top 10 Egyptian football players of 2020?

As already mentioned, the top 10 Egyptian football players of 2020 have been chosen from among those players who play in major European leagues with Mohamed Salah at the top of the list. If you want to know about the rest of the list, just read on!

Mohamed Salah

Number one on the list of Top 10 Egyptian Football Players of 2020; Mohamed Salah Hamed Mahrous Ghaly, simply known as Mohamed Salah, was born in June 1992 in Basyoun, Egypt. During his footballing career, Salah has played for top-tier European clubs like Roma,

Chelsea

and Liverpool, but it was with Liverpool that he showed his great goalscoring talent.

You might be surprised if you know that Salah has scored more than a half of the goals in his career for Liverpool: The 28-year-old Egyptian forward has scored more than 128 goals at club level from among which 71 have been scored for Liverpool.

And all these 71 goals have been scored in 101 appearances Salah has made for the Premier League club which translates to almost 3 goals in every two appearances.

Salah has also a number of individual honors in the bag (more than 30) and has set a number of records (more than 15) both at the Premier League and his club, Liverpool, including the most number of goals scored by an African player in a

Premier League

season (32 goals in 2017-18 season), the most Premier League Player of the Month awards won in a single season (again 2017-18 season), and the most goals in the first 100 Premier League appearances in Liverpool club history (70 goals).

Salah is indeed among those forwards with a knack for goalscoring. He has also played for the Egyptian national team since 2011 and has scored 41 goals in his 67 appearances for them which means more than 3 goals in every 2 appearances he has made for the team.

Salah has also scored the most number of goals scored by an Egyptian player in Serie A history (35 goals in 81 matches). With all these records, he’s, with no doubt, one of the

greatest Egyptian football players of 2020

or even the biggest Egyptian football star of 2020.

Trezeguet

Don’t just mistake him for the great former French footballer,

David Trezeguet

! His real name is Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, and he was born in October 1994 in the city of Kafr El Sheikh, Egypt. Why is he nicknamed Trezeguet? Because his play style, somehow or other, resembles that of David Trezeguet, as once noticed by one of his former youth coaches.

A product of the top-tier Egyptian club, Al Ahly, Trezeguet currently plays for the Premier League club,

Aston Villa

.

Trezeguet actually spent all of his youth career with Al Ahly, and even served them as a senior player from 2012 to 2016, however, it seemed the Egyptian football was not big enough to contain the 26-year-old Egyptian midfielder as he opted to join the Belgian top club, Anderlecht, in 2015 on a €1-million loan, despite the fact that Al Ahly director of football, Wael Gomaa, had described him as “one of the main elements of the team”.

Trezeguet has played for the Egyptian national teams (both senior and under-aged) ever since he has started his senior career in 2012. He has appeared for the Egyptian senior national team since 2014 scoring 6 goals for them in the process. He’s also won the Egyptian Premier League title in 2013-14 season with Al Ahly.

Mohamed Elneny

A product of Al Ahly of Egypt like Trezeguet, Mohamed Naser Elsayed Elneny, simply known as Mohamed Elneny, is another footballer among the top 10 Egyptian football players of 2020. He was born in July 1992 in the city of El Mahalla El Kubra, Egypt, and started his youth career in 1997 only at the age of 5 with Al Ahly of Egypt.

Only 6 years after the start of his senior career in 2010, the Egyptian talent was bought by the Premier League club,

Arsenal

, for a reported transfer fee of between €5.4 to €8.1 million.

He scored his first goal for the Premier League club in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Barcelona - although Arsenal lost that game - and was awarded

Arsenal's Player of the Month

in the same month. Maybe for his goal?

Elneny was named Arsenal's Player of the Month once again in the next month, April, this time for his great performances at the club and perfect combination with Arsenal’s then midfielder, Aaron Ramsey. That may be enough to call him one of the

best Egyptian footballers of 2020

.

However, if you know that the 28-year-old Egyptian midfielder has also won four consecutive Swiss Super League titles with the top Swiss club, Basel, and also one FA Cup and one FA Community Shield trophy with Arsenal you might even call him one of the biggest Egyptian football stars of 2020.

Ahmed Elmohamady

Born in September 1987 in El Mahalla El Kubra, Egypt, Ahmed Eissa Elmohamady Abdel Fattah, simply known as Ahmed Elmohamady, is a tall Egyptian defender - he’s 183 cm tall - who, despite his age (32), could be considered as one of the greatest Egyptian soccer players of 2020.

Elmohamady has actually played more than 10 years of his footballing career for English top and second-tier clubs, namely Sunderland,

Hull City

, and Aston Villa.

Although a defender, Elmohamady has scored for every club he has played for so far, though not that much to be comparable to that of a striker or forward. The most number of goals the 32-year-old Egyptian defender has scored for a single club have been for Hull City: 9 goals in 168 appearances.

He has also appeared for the Egyptian national team since 2007 and has scored 6 goals in his 91 appearances for them (one goal in every 15 appearances).

So, we could also call him a goalscoring defender besides one of the best Egyptian football players of 2020. Elmohamady has won Africa Cup of Nations in 2008 and 2010 with the Egyptian national team. He was also named Hull City Player of the Year in 2012-13 season.

An Egyptian player named as a Premier League club player of the year while the club has other options for that. Isn’t that an achievement? Doesn’t that leave any doubt to call him one of the top 10 Egyptian football players of 2020?

Ramadan Sobhi

Born in January 1997 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, Ramadan Sobhi Ahmed, simply known as Ramadan Sobhi, is one of the

best Egyptian footballers of 2020

who currently plays for his former club, Al Ahly, on loan from the Championship club, Huddersfield Town. Sobhi is actually a product of Al Ahly and has played for the top-tier Egyptian club for 11 years both as a youth and senior player.

Dubbed as the new Mohamed Aboutrika - one of the greatest Egyptian footballers of all time - for his play style drawing similarities to that of Aboutrika, Ramadan Sobhi is capable of not only playing as a winger but also as an attacking midfielder and striker.

The 23-year-old Egyptian winger is also a tall type - he’s 183 cm - and has also played for another English club, namely

Stoke City

, from 2016 to 2018.

When with Al Ahly, Sobhi won three Egyptian Premier League titles in 2013-14, 2015-16, and 2018-19 seasons and three Egyptian Super Cup trophies in 2014, 2015, and 2018. He also won one CAF Federation Cup with Ah Ahly in 2014. Sobhi is a supporter of

Real Madrid

, and has played both for the under-aged and senior Egyptian national teams since 2013.

Amr Warda

Born in September 1993 in Alexandria, Egypt, Amr Medhat Warda, simply known as Amr Warda, is an Egyptian winger who currently plays in the Super League Greece, the top-tier league in the Greek football league system.

Warda is actually a product of Al Ahly and has played for the Egyptian top-tier club for four years: Two years as a youth and two years as a senior player, though during his stay with the club as a senior player, he only appeared two times for them.

Maybe the most memorable moment in the footballing career of Warda was when his goal for the Greek professional club, Panetolikos, was voted the best goal of the 2nd match day by fans.

He was also named the Man of the Match in December 2015 in a crucial match against Iraklis that ended in Panetolikos 2-0 win. He was one of the goalscorers in that match. The next club in the Greek Super League Warda served was

PAOK

- he’s still a player of the Greek club though on loan to another club in the same league.

By signing a contract with PAOK in January 2017, Warda actually became the seventh Egyptian footballer in PAOK’s history to have served the club. He also won the Greek Cup with the same club in the same year (2017).

Warda has also served the Egyptian national team since 2015 and has appeared 30 times for them in different occasions including 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Ahmed Hegazi

Born in January 1991 in Ismailia, Egypt, Ahmed Elsayed Ali Elsayed Hegazy, simply known as Ahmed Hegazi, is an Egyptian tall defender - he’s 192 cm tall - who currently plays for the Championship club, West Bromwich Albion.

He has also played for the Serie A club, Fiorentina, during his footballing career, namely from 2012 to 2015.

Although not a product of Al Ahly, Hegazi has played for the Egyptian top-tier club from 2015 to 2017 and has won two consecutive Egyptian Premier League titles in 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, and one Egyptian Super Cup in 2015 with them.

Despite this, Hegazi has made the most number of appearances - more than 70 appearances - for the English second-tier club, West Bromwich Albion, and even has scored 3 goals for them.

Hegazi has never played for a Premier League club, but, he could be still on the list of

Top 10 Egyptian Football Players of 2020

, since many Egyptian players has not even experienced playing in the English football no matter what the tier.

The 29-year-old Egyptian defender has also represented Egypt in international arenas since 2011: he has actually made 59 appearances for the Egyptian national team so far and scored 2 goals for them in the process.

Sam Morsy

Born in September 1991 in Wolverhampton, England, Samy Sayed Morsy, simply known as Sam Morsy, is one of those footballers with dual nationality: he’s both a citizen of Egypt and England and can, therefore, represent both countries in international arenas though he has opted to represent his country of origin, Egypt, rather than the country he was born in.

Born and raised in England, Morsy has only served English clubs in the second and third tier of English football league system including Port Vale, Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic, and Barnsley - the last one on loan from

Wigan Athletic

.

Although a defensive midfielder, Morsy has scored 20 goals throughout his career. He has also made 7 appearances for the Egyptian national team since 2016.

Morsy has been named his club’s player of the year three times, namely two times in 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons when he played for

Port Vale

and once in 2013-14 when at Chesterfield.

He has also won one Championship and one League Two title so far. So, by these achievements, the 29-year-old Egyptian defender could be considered as one of the best Egyptian soccer players of 2020.

As for Morsy’s style of play, we should say that he’s almost an aggressive type; if you know that he has received 9 yellow cards and one red card in just one season you might agree with us. However, that isn’t a good reason to wipe him off the list of Top 10 Egyptian Football Players of 2020!

Ahmed Hassan Mahgoub

One of the tall ones among the

greatest Egyptian soccer players of 2020

- he’s actually 191 cm tall, Ahmed Hassan Mahgoub Abdelmoneim, known as Ahmed Hassan Mahgoub, was born in March 1993 in Cairo, Egypt. He currently plays for the top-tier Greek club, Olympiacos, on loan from another top-tier club, namely Braga, who play in Primeira Liga of Portugal.

A product of Al Ahly, Hassan has played only for European clubs since his senior career start in 2012. He’s also a good goalscorer - he’s a striker in fact.

He has scored 57 goals in his 161 appearances only at club level which translates to a little more than one goal in every three appearances. He has also appeared 23 times for the Egyptian national team since 2016, but has not scored that many goals - only five.

Although a product of Al Ahly, Hassan left the Egyptian top-tier club only after a year he joined them because he didn’t get enough play time there.

He then joined the Portuguese top-tier club, Rio Ave, as a youth player and just one year later was promoted to the club’s senior first team. Since then, the 27-year-old Egyptian striker has played only for European clubs, namely Rio Ave, Braga, and Olympiacos.

And do you know what his nickname is? Kouka or Koka for his love for Coca-Cola in childhood! He might not have drunk much of that soft beverage, because that could have get him among

the fattest footballers in history

!

Ahmed Sayed

Born in January 1996 in Cairo, Egypt, Ahmed Sayed, known also as Ahmed Sayed Zizo or simply Zizo - Zizo is his father’s name, is one of the best Egyptian soccer players of 2020 who currently plays for the Egyptian Premier League club, Zamalek.

That doesn’t mean he cannot be on the list of

Top 10 Egyptian Football Players of 2020

, since he has also played for top-tier Belgian and Portuguese clubs, namely Lierse, Nacional, and Moreirense.

Sayed is also an Egypt international, though he has only appeared for the Egyptian national team only three times since 2019.

With Zamalek, the 24-year-old Egyptian midfielder has won a handful of trophies including CAF Confederation Cup in 2018-19 season, Egypt Cup in the same season, and Egyptian Super Cup in 2019-20 season.
