Ronald Araujo

will undergo thigh surgery on Wednesday in Finland. The center-back reportedly is likely to be out of action for between two and three months and therefore will miss the World Cup, which starts on November 20.

Araujo sustained a thigh injury in the first minute of a friendly against Iran.

Uruguay

"Ronald Araujo will undergo surgery on Wednesday for the adductor longus tendon avulsion he has in his right thigh,"

read a club statement on Monday.

"The operation will be carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the club’s medical staff, in Turku, Finland.”

Reports In Spain suggest that Uruguay was pressuring Araujo to delay surgery so he can play in the World Cup but the 23-year-old player after speaking with Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez and the club's medical staff has decided to undergo surgery immediately.

Araujo recently extended his contract with Barcelona until 2026. He will miss important matches for Barcelona including deciding matches against Bayern Munich and Inter in the Champions League.
