Luis Suarez tips the new Uruguay generation to win the Qatar World Cup

After helping Uruguay to reach the 2010 World Cup semi-finals, the 35-year-old striker tips his national team to even do better in Qatar this year.

Finishing third in the CONMEBOL qualification group,

had a slow start to his life as

Uruguay's

head coach as he will prepare his side to face South Korea, Portugal, and Ghana in Group H in Qatar.

However, the former Barcelona and Liverpool striker believes the new Uruguayan generation, including Valverde, Nunez, and Bentancur, can win a third World Cup title for the Celeste this winter.  This might be the last World Cup

Luis Suarez

tastes as a player after making 132 appearances for Uruguay, scoring 68 goals in the process.

Suarez said:

"This is generated by Pajarito [Federico Valverde], Darwin [Nunez], Ronald [Araujo] and Rodri [Bentancur]. Players at the top level in Europe generate this.

"This is a prize for the work that our country does. Uruguay will always try and compete at the World Cup at their maximum. To try to go as far as possible and why not to be the champions? Because we have players for this.

"Even though we know the difficulty that each game at a World Cup represents, we always have a real belief."

 

This will be the

fourth World Cup

tournament Suarez has experienced after helping his side reach the semi-finals in 2010. The Uruguayan added:

"It makes you feel proud to have the chance to be able to play a fourth consecutive World Cup.

"It is a pride for our country and also my own pride that I have always fought and put in good performances in the national team."

Luis Suarez

rejoined the club he started his career with,

Nacional

, on a short-term contract this summer. He played in 34 matches and scored 12 goals for the club before moving to the Dutch side Groningen.
