Juventus declined after Ronaldo's departure - Cannavaro
The Portuguese superstar left Juventus in the summer and returned to his former team after 12 years.
legend Fabio Cannavaro believes that the team has suffered a significant decline since
Ronaldo's departure.
Juventus are currently fifth in the table, four points behind fourth-placed Atalanta. They had a very poor start to the season, gaining just one point in their first three games. In total, Juventus have won 10 of their 19 Serie A games this season, scoring 27 goals, the weakest offensive record in a decade. However, Cannavaro is not surprised by his former team's run, and after Ronaldo's departure to
Manchester United, he expected such a decline.
“I was not surprised by their drop, I think it was inevitable,”
former Italy captain Il Corriere dello Sport newspaper.
“Don’t forget that they lost the coach-saviour, Cristiano Ronaldo. With him, they started every game 1-0 up.
“Juventus must deal with the decline of a few players and with a few struggling youths.
“On the other hand, I didn’t expect Milan’s drop. At least, not now.”
Inter, who won the league last season, also topped the league in the second half of the season and suffered only one defeat in 19 games. Cannavaro added:
“They are a complete team and I am happy for Simone Inzaghi because many thought he couldn’t coach a big club.
“On the contrary, he has all the characteristics to do well, he knows how to deal with players. Compared to last season, they have more freedom and you can see that on the pitch.”
