Tottenham leading the race to sign “the new Luka Modric”

The Spurs are in competition with their rivals in acquiring the services of the young Croatian player, who is named "the new Luka Modric".

Lovro Majer

has been impressing in

Rennes

and has three caps by the Croatia national team.

Tottenham

supporters may not remember but the 23-year-old was playing for Dinamo Zagreb the day they defeated Jose Mourinho’s Spurs to eliminate them from the Europa League last season.

He was part of Zlatko Dalić's preliminary 34-man squad for Euro 2020 but he did not make it to the final 26.

Since Christian Eriksen departed the club and a move for their ex-Dane has been touted, Tottenham have been struggling when it comes to creating chances consistently.

Majer, however, emerges as a long-term replacement at the age of 23.

Manchester United

and

Bayern Munich

are keen on acquiring the midfielder’s services. Rennes bought him on a deal worth €12 million with add-ons in the summer, but following his remarkable season, he is highly demanded.

Majer met the back of the net for the first time for Rennes two weeks ago in their battle against Montpellier and had an impact on their 4-1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais earlier in November.

Since

Antonio Conte

is eager to revitalize a tired squad, Spurs are considering a number of players. Midfielders are on top of the list but the Italian may decide to improve some other positions as well.

Jordan Pickford emerged as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris in goal, whereas Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic has also attracted their attention.

Matthijs De Ligt and Antonio Rudiger, on the other hand, have been touted for moves in defence.
