Manchester City defeats West Ham in the first game after the international break.

Manchester City

defeated

West Ham

in their first Premier League game after the international break in a match that

Ilkay Gundogan

and

Fernandinho’s

goals secured the 2-1 home victory for the Citizens, which moved them into second place on the table.

The home side handled the tough wintry condition of Etihad Stadium in the best way possible, and now they have lost only one home game in their last 16 Premier League games.

Gundogan found the net in the first half and gave the Citizens the lead, and Riyad Mahrez scored another one which was ruled out, but Fernandinho’s late goal sealed the deal for the home side and confirmed West Ham’s second Premier League defeat in a row.

It was

Pep Guardiola’s

tenth victory against West Ham in 11 games and brought the Citizens’ points into a level number with

Chelsea

, who is the leader on the table, although the Blues have one game less than Manchester City, which will be played on Sunday against Manchester United.

West Ham has collected only five points for the 78 possible points that could have been collected against the Citizens in the Premier League, scoring only six goals against the Citizens 30 goals, which shows Manchester City’s dominance over the Hammers in the domestic competition.
