Man Utd eyeing Sporting boss Ruben Amorim as new manager
Manchester United have reportedly added Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim to their list as a successor for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
According to
the Sun,
Sporting's 36-year-old manager
Amorim
has attracted the attention of Premier League heavyweights due to his accomplishments in Portugal.
In his first season in charge, he led the Lisbon club to their first league title in 19 years, and he took them to the Champions League last 16 with a 3-1 triumph against
Borussia Dortmundlast week.
According to the newspaper, the 36-year-old manager is being pursued by a number of big European teams, including
Manchester United, and he has been added to a Manchester shortlist that also includes
Mauricio Pochettino
,
Brendan Rodgers
, and
Erik Ten Hag
.
Given his youth and the fact that his top-flight managing career is just in its third season, Amorim would undoubtedly be a riskier selection than his more veteran colleagues.
However, the former
Benficafootballer has had a fantastic success record in his brief management career, having won the Portuguese League Cup with
Bragain 2019/20 before repeating the same at Sporting last season and adding the Primeira Liga trophy as well.
Ralf Rangnick
is ready to take over as temporary manager at Old Trafford until the end of the season, after which he might move into an executive post to make space for a permanent manager.
