Cavani still a doubt for Chelsea game

The Uruguayan star hopes to recover from the injury as soon as possible and be able to accompany his team in the important matches ahead.

Manchester United

striker Edinson Cavani has struggled to recover from a hamstring injury during the international break in Uruguay but his presence in Sunday's game against

Chelsea

remains unclear.

Cavani suffered an injury in the 2-2 draw with Atalanta and has been sidelined for about 25 days, missing his side's crucial defeat to Manchester City and Watford, as well as their recent win over

Villarreal

. The 34-year-old striker also did not play for the national team and missed the matches against Argentina and Bolivia. Despite his absence from the national team, his recovery is not yet complete and his presence against Chelsea is still unknown.

"During this period of the international break, I've had the chance to stop and focus on this niggling injury that I'm feeling in the tendon in my leg, so I can speed up my recovery and come back quickly and be available for my club and national team,"

Cavani said.

"So, during this time, I was able to spend a few days in Uruguay, do some fitness and recovery work and stuff and, in turn, I managed to see my family at the same time, which is always important, to see your family and be close to them."

Following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick will be the interim coach of the Red Devils. He won his side's Champions League 2-0 win over Villarreal and now has to face leaders Chelsea on Sunday.
