Haaland and Norway fail to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland will not be at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after Norway fell short in a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Norway

needed all three points to have any chance of qualifying, and the result means that

and his teammates will not be a part of next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Norway were missing Erling Haaland on Tuesday due to an injury sustained while playing for

. And his absence was felt acutely in the Norway squad, in which they failed to fire a single shot on target.

helped secure the victory for the 2010 World Cup runners-up.

Steven Bergwijn took the lead for the Netherlands in the 84th minute after finding space inside the box and finishing well into the top right corner.

star Memphis Depay doubled the lead after being set up by Bergwijn deep in stoppage time.

The Netherlands ended with 23 points from 10 games, two more than

Turkey

, which beat

Montenegro

2-1 to win a playoff position. Norway came in third place in the group with 18 points.
