Barcelona will ask Sterling to cut his salary
The English star is close to leaving the doors of Etihad Stadium and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
Sterling currently has no place in Pep Guardiola's squad and has been on the bench for most of the season, while his contract expires at the end of the season.
He has only made three appearances for the Premier League this season and is expected to leave City in 2022. Given that Sterling's contract expires in the summer, it is possible that City will consider selling Sterling in January or that Sterling will reach an agreement with other clubs in January to transfer him as a free agent in the summer.
Barcelona is one of the most serious clubs that wants to sign him and hopes to finalize the transfer. However,
Sportreported that it is a major obstacle for the Blaugrana. In fact, given Barcelona's dire economic situation, they will not be able to pay a substantial salary to Sterling and may ask him to reduce his salary comparing with amount he recieves at City.
Barcelona are likely to offer Sterling more clauses to satisfy him. However, it will be difficult for the Blaugrana as other clubs want to sign Sterling.
