Unai Emery’s situation has been decided by a phone call made at 1 AM from a car.

Newcastle United

have been eyeing

Unai Emery

for the managerial role at the club as they were looking for a new boss following the takeover of the new owners.

The

Villarreal

manager has felt a lot of pressure due to their poor run of form in La Liga, but their Champions League victory over Young Boys on Wednesday has lightened the pressure.

In the post-match interview, Emery fueled the speculations of his move to St James’ Park, as he did not rule out a switch but he ensured that the matter will be discussed with Villarreal first.

However, some important events took place since then, which was not more than a phone call at 1 AM between Emery and Fernando Roig, the club president.

As per reports from

Marca

, the duo talked about Emery’s decision to go back to his home in Valencia.

Roig, however, made it clear that they want him to remain put, and the coach was convinced. Emery ensured Roig that he will continue being in charge of the club and rejected Newcastle’s offer.

Emery’s release clause is €6million and his deal is due to expire in one and a half year.
