Club World Cup to be held in UAE instead of Japan

Japan was going to be the place where the next Club World Cup would take place but now it will be held in United Arab Emirates in 2022.

The Club World Cup is now scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates in 2022, according to FIFA.

Japan was originally scheduled to be hosting the annual tournament featuring the champions of six global confederations, as well as the hosts’ national champions in 2021.

The Japan Football Association (JFA) were planning to stage the competition after five years, but due to Covid-19 conditions in Japan prevented them from being the host.

President Gianni Infantino confirmed on Wednesday that the UAE, who have done it four times already, will be the replacement host.

However, the dates of the Club World Cup are yet to be pronounced, with FIFA revealing that it will be staged in 2022, with Chelsea featuring.

The Blues will lock horns with Egyptian side Al Ahly and New Zealand's Auckland City.
