Ex-Man United keeper Romero joins Venezia

The Argentine goalkeeper was without a club since parting ways with the Red Devils in June.

Having gone through an extensive search to find a new club, Sergio Romero has finalized a deal to join Venezia. The former Manchester United goalkeeper hopes to get regular game time at the Serie A side, with the newly-promoted club securing his signature on a free deal.

After starting his football journey by playing for

Racing Club

in 2006, Romero continued his career by joining 

AZ Alkmaar

, where he won the Eredivisie title in 2009. The Argentine moved to


in 2011 and attracted attention from top European clubs by his consistent performances for the Blucerchiati. 

Romero joined Manchester United in 2015, but he never managed to oust David Dd Gea from the Red Devils’ lineup. The 34-year-old, who has not featured in a competitive game since August 2020, can make his Venezia debut against Fiorentina on Monday.
