Australia’s 3-1 victory against Oman is their 11th consecutive win

were able to help their side to win the game and create a new global mark for the longest winning streak in

qualifying.

Australia retain the top spot in Group B on goal difference alongside Saudi Arabia on nine points and

are now one of three teams six points adrift of the top two after three games.

It took only nine minutes for the Socceroos to take the lead, with Mabil blasting the ball home on the half-volley after Oman failed the clear Jackson Irvine’s speculative cross.

If Faiyz Al Rusheidi had not produced a fine fingertip save to deny Tom Rogic eight minutes later, Australia would have doubled their lead. Oman also were able to show their attacking potency but Mat Ryan’s save prevented Zahir Al Aghbari from leveling at the other end.

Although Oman failed on that occasion, they did not stop there and ultimately Al Alawi were able to score the equalizer in the 28th minute by taking a touch to shrug off Harry Souttar before rifling the ball past the Real Sociedad shot-stopper from 12 yards.

Although Oman were able to seize the momentum, they suffered a blow when Al Aghbari had to leave the pitch due to an injury.

They finished the first half without any more goals. Australia started the second half as they did the first by taking the lead through a close-range header from Boyle in the 49th minute.

Oman also tried to start the second half just like they did the first as Al Alawi came close to score more goals on several occasions. However, Duke was able to score the third goal for Graham Arnold’s side in the 89th minute.

Now Australia are going to travel east to play against Japan on Tuesday and Oman are going to face Vietnam in a game that now takes on added importance if they are to qualify for the global finals for the first time.
