“Luckily we won a match suffering,” the coach told DAZN after the game. “Otherwise we might have thought we did well and there was nothing more to do.

“There are many things to improve. We have players who must do better in their decisions of the last pass, when to shoot on the target.”

Allegri was asked if Chiesa had given him the right answers after a difficult period.

“I didn’t have to wait for answers from him or from anyone,” Allegri answered. “He returned from an injury, tonight he asked me to change because his flexor was tight again.

“The difference tonight is that those who took over did well.”

Allegri, who left the pitch angry after the match against

Milan

, was asked if he was less angry after the first win of the season.

“I can’t beat them every day. Today we won an important match,”

Allegri added

. “We have to get out of the comfort zone, football is made up of suffering and fatigue.

“We don’t have to look at the table. We try to put our first win next to the first at home against Sampdoria. There are players who have important qualities and who need to improve.

“[Weston] McKennie for example, should have scored at least four goals and those chances make the difference.”
