Southampton boss mad at the referee

Hasenhuttl criticizes the referee for changing his decision after giving them a penalty.

In a game that

Southampton

stopped

Manchester City

at Etihad Stadium, they even had the chance to win the game when the referee

Jonathan Moss

gave the visitors a penalty and sent off Kyle Walker with a straight red card, but his decision was changed after the Citizens’ protests when he checked his decision with VAR.

Southampton’s manager

Ralph Hasenhuttl

has talked about the matted insisting that although they disagree with the referee’s decision, they accept it.

"We had the feeling it was not a clear wrong decision but when the referee thinks it is a clear wrong decision he has to overrule it. He did it. It is a pity for us but we have to accept it,"

"If we want to win here we have to have a perfect game and a perfect day. I think tactically we had a nearly perfect one but we needed a bit of luck to get such a penalty and this was not there."

Despite his respect to the referee, the Southampton boss has talked about the matter elsewhere, insisting that Jonathan Moss’s lack of bravery made him change his decision instead of sticking to the decision that seemed right.

"For me it wasn't a clear wrong decision but I think he was not brave enough,"
