Sky Sports: Everton to compete with Marseille for Brighton’s Maupay

Scoring two goals in two games, Neal Maupay has attracted interest from across Europe with his strong start to the season.

According to

Sky Sports

, Rafael Benitez is keen on the 25-year-old forward but due to Financial Fair Play rules, Everton are not in a position to spend on transfer fees.

In addition to Maupay, Everton holds an interest in Burnley’s Dwight McNeil as well, but

the Toffees need to sell in order to bring more players in

. However, they haven’t been able to offload a string of first-team players including James Rodriguez, Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun, and Moise Kean with less than a week left of the transfer window.

Signing Andros Townsend, Andy Lonergan, and Asmir Begovic on free transfers, and

Demarai Gray from Bayer Leverkusen

for just £1.7m highlights Everton's difficulty in this transfer window.

Failing to offload deadwood, Everton’s director, Marcel Brands, is said to be willing to listen to offers for the likes of Jonjo Kenny, Mason Holgate, and Jarrad Branthwaite.

Maupay signed for Brighton from Brentford for a £20m fees in 2019 and has still two years left on his contract.

Although Marseille are also in chase of his signature, the 25-year-old is likely to be with Seagulls when

they face Everton on Saturday

as Brighton are financially in a good position, selling

Ben White to Arsenal

for an eye-catching £50m fee this summer.
