Busquets to Messi: You leave Barca as the best player in history

The Spanish midfielder becomes the first Barcelona player to bid farewell to the departed club legend.

Barcelona officially announced on Thursday that

Lionel Messi

will not sign a new contract at Camp Nou. Having spent his entire career at Barcelona, the Argentinian superstar will join a new club ahead of the new season.

There was a lack of reaction from the Barcelona players to the shocking news until

Sergio Busquets

finally broke the silence on Friday.

"Still trying to get used to everything and knowing how hard it will be, I can only thank you for what you’ve done for the club and for those we’ve accompanied you over these years, and specifically towards me.”

The Spaniard, who will succeed Messi as Barcelona’s captain, wrote on his

Instagram

account.

“You came as a child and you're going to be the best player in history, having made this club grow to the height it deserves and making history, individually and collectively. I can always say I played and shared many moments with you, most very good and I was lucky enough to grow up and enjoy by your side for 13 seasons.

"Beyond all this, I stay with the person and the friendship we made. I will miss you so much. I can only wish the best to you and your family because you deserve it, you will be missed."

Messi was reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract at Camp Nou. However, Barcelona were prevented from registering his contract due to La Liga’s financial regulations. The 34-year-old is close to reaching an agreement with

PSG

ahead of the next season as he ends his 21-year-stay at the Spanish side.
