Barcelona to extend Messi's contract in coming week

Wed 04 August 2021 | 13:11

Messi will extend his contract for five years.

Spanish media have claimed that Lionel Messi will soon extend his contract with

Barcelona

and will play his first game of the new era in the Joan Gamper Cup.

Messi will soon be added to Barca's training camp after the break and it is unclear whether he will play in a friendly against Juventus. However, he intends to attend the Joan Gamber Cup match at Johan Cruyff Stadium to give a traditional pre-season speech as captain.

He agreed to extend his contract with the club last month and halved his salary, and with the injection of money that will be made for the new sponsor of La Liga, Barca's hand is open to compensate for the financial losses. Barca will receive 230 million pounds from this contract, which will help their budget for next season.

Messi is currently a free agent and his contract will probably be extended before the start of the week.
