Barcelona bans Ilaix Moriba from the pre-season tour

Thu 29 July 2021 | 10:32

It’s been reported earlier that since the 18-year-old might sign a pre-contract with a non-Spanish team as early as January 2022, Koeman and the board may have difficulty persuading him to remain at the club.

According to

Marca

, although

it’s been recently reported

that the Blaugrana are optimistic to have terms agreed with the 18-year-old over a 3-year contract renewal, those reports of a good feeling over Ilaix's future are wildly wide of the mark as Barça have warned the highly-rated 18-year-old that he will be banished to the reserves, or even the academy, if he continues to refuse to extend his deal.

With 14 La Liga and 18 total appearances for Ronald Koeman's team in 2020/21, the 18-year-old midfielder had a strong debut season. However, despite establishing himself as a first-team player, his contract issue has fueled transfer speculation in the last week.

According to the outlet,

Barcelona

and

Ilaix

are still 'very distant' and have 'strong disagreements' over an extension, and it is suggested that the main problem is the teenager's wage demands.

Offering

Moriba

a 3-year deal, the teenager will be able to establish himself in Ronald Koeman’s first team and renegotiate for higher terms when he’s 21, at which point Barcelona’s financial situation will also be better.

Being relegated to Barcelona B as punishment for his contract stance, sources close to the negotiation claim it’s 50/50 whether he’ll stay or leave as the Premier League appears as the most likely destination for the promising young midfielder.

Ilaix Moriba was part of a generation

of talented Barcelona stars at Lamasia, including Konrad de la Fuente, Nico Gonzalez, Jaume Jardi, Arnau Tenas, Alvaro Sanz, Alejandro Balde, among several others.
