Miedema breaks Olympics record after scoring a brace against China

The Oranjes’ forward broke an Olympics record after scoring a double in the last group stage clash against china.

The

Netherlands

advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament as the group F winner after routing

China

and defeating the the Steel Roses 8-2 in their last group-stage match.

The highlight of the game, however, was the Netherlands’ forward

Vivianne Miedema

, who came off the bench in the last 30 minutes of the game and managed to net a brace for the Oranjes.

Having scored eight goals in three appearances, including her double against China, Miedema set a new Olympics record for scoring the most goals in a single Olympic women's tournament; a record previously held by Canada international, Christine Sinclair.

The 25-year-old forward is also the Oranjes’ record goal scorer, having scored 81 goals in her 99 international appearances.
