Wayne Rooney injures Jason Knight during Derby County training match
The Derby County boss made a careless tackle which will sideline the midfielder for up to three months.
was a key player for Derby County last season. The Ireland international featured in 43 Championship matches as Derby finished 21st in the league. However, the 20-year-old has been sidelined with an ankle injury, only two weeks before the start of the new Championship season.

went in for a 50-50 challenge that injured Knight’s ankle during a training session last week. Derby are reportedly negotiating with HMRC and the EFL to ease their transfer embargo. The EFL is expected to allow Derby to build a squad of 23 players of ‘professional standing’. These players must have played a game in the League, the EFL Cup, or the FA Cup.
Following the injury of his side’s key midfielder, Rooney insisted the club must strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
“Jason will be out for eight to 12 weeks,”
Rooney said.
“He has rocked his ankle. Thankfully he doesn’t need surgery, but needs the time to make sure he gets his ankle strong again.
“Of course [it is a huge blow], everyone knows what Knighty brings to us, he is a fantastic player, great energy, and he will be a loss, but we have to deal with that.”

Salford Cityin the first round of the EFL Cup on August 10.
