Robert Lewandowski has won Germany’s Footballer of the Year award

For the second time, Robert Lewandowski was named the best footballer of 2021 in Germany.

Robert Lewandowski had a dream season, breaking Gerd Müller's 40-year record with 41 goals, marking Bayern Munich's ninth consecutive Bundesliga title.

received 356 of the 563 votes cast in a poll sent by journalists from sports magazine Kicker – 315 more than his nearest challenger

I know what a great honour this is,"

the 32-year-old told the club's official website.

"It's a source of great pride and joy for me, because it's rare for someone to win the title of Footballer of the Year in Germany twice in a row."

Lewandowski is the 15th different player to win the award on several occasions - along with players such as Franz Beckenbauer, Jurgen Klinsmann, Lothar Matthaus and Oliver Kahn.
