Since joining Tottenham in 2015, Alderweireld has featured in 236 matches for the club. The 32-year-old, who helped Spurs in their run to the Champions League final in 2019, played in five games forBelgium
in their Euro 2020 campaign. A move to Qatar’s top-flight is unlikely to prevent Alderweireld from participating in the next year’s World Cup. Both Thomas Vermaelen and Yannick Carrasco were called up for the Red Devils’ Euro 2020 campaign, despite playing in Japan and China respectively.
