Cagliari President confirms ongoing negotiations for Nainggolan
The Belgian midfielder has experienced a difficult spell at Inter under Antonio Conte since arriving from Roma in 2018. Spending the 2019-20 season on loan at his former club, Cagliari, he returned to the Isolani again for the second half of the last season.
Helping
Leonardo Semplici’s
side avoid relegation,
Cagliari
are keen to make the move permanent, which would also be the player’s preference.
However, the negotiations between the clubs have been slow with finances thought to be the main reason that no agreement has been reached.
Speaking in a press conference, reported by
Tuttomercatoweb.com, the Cagliari President,
Tommaso Giulini
said:
“Contracts this important are today evidently anachronistic, especially after the financial hit all clubs took this past season. It is a negotiation that goes on, it would have been nice to have Radja at the beginning of the pre-season training retreat, but we still hope he can reach this retreat eventually.”
Inter are eager to offload the Belgian’s substantial wages as the 33-year-old himself is optimistic toward a permanent move to his former club.
He claimed in
an interview in Decemberafter signing his second loan deal from the Nerazzurri:
"I'd like to put my experience at the service of the team. I've read absurd things, I'm intact and can't wait to play. If I will stay permanently? Now I'm being moved left and right, let's see."
