England – Italy: Ticketless fans breach security at Wembley Stadium

Police have confirmed that hundreds of ticketless fans forced their way into Wembley Stadium ahead of the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy.

Police had earlier informed fans not to travel to London if they did not have a ticket, citing Covid regulations that remain in force until 19 July.

But Supporters breached security barriers outside the stadium and burst through the electronic gates that allow entry to the seats.

Although UEFA have denied reports fans had gained entry without tickets, videos posted online showed supporters breaching security.

A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said

: "There was a breach of security and a small group of people got into the stadium.

"We are now working closely with stadium stewards and security to remove these people. Anyone inside the stadium without a ticket will be instantly ejected."

The Metropolitan Police said the force has been working with Wembley’s security staff to prevent further breaches at the stadium.

"Earlier this afternoon there was a breach of security at Wembley Stadium, which resulted in a small number of people getting into the stadium without a ticket,"

Metropolitan Police said

.

"Officers worked closely with security officials to prevent any further breaches. We will also support action by Wembley Stadium officials to identify those without tickets and eject them."

England are currently playing their first major final for the first time since the 1966 World Cup.
