Alphonso Davies to miss Gold Cup due to injury

The Canadian star will return to Munich to begin his recovery ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

Canada

in their World Cup qualifying campaign. The Bayern Munich star has scored four goals and provided five assists in six matches for the national team this year, while they have reached the final round of World Cup qualifiers in the North and Central America region. However, Canada’s preparation for their upcoming Gold Cup campaign was rocked by the news of Davies’ injury on Friday.

Davies picked up a knock in Canada’s training session on Wednesday and won’t be available for the Gold Cup. The extent of the injury is yet to be clarified, but Davies has left Canada’s training camp to begin his recovery process in Munich.

Canada will play against Martinique in their opening match of the Gold Cup on July 12.
