Belgium waiting for De Bruyne and Hazard fitness update for Italy game

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has said he will wait until the last minute for Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard to prove their fitness for their Friday night’s Euro 2020 quarter-final game against Italy.

Manchester City

playmaker

Kevin De Bruyne

suffered an ankle injury during

Belgium

’s 1-0 victory over

Portugal

, during which

Real Madrid

striker

Eden Hazard

also limped off with a muscle problem, and none of them were able to train with the rest of the team.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference for the Italy game,

Martinez

said:

"We all know we are fighting against time.

"We are going to wait until the last minute to make that decision.

"We'll see tomorrow if they can be involved or not. Unfortunately, at the moment we cannot make a decision."

De Bruyne was also absent in Belgium’s Euro 2020 opener against

Russia

because of a facial injury he picked up during Man City's clash with

Chelsea

in the Champions League final. He made his return by scoring a goal and providing an assist against

Denmark

.

Eden Hazard

has played in every game so far and seems to have improved his form following an injury-struck season at Real Madrid.

His brother Thorgan sent Belgium to the quarter-final with an amazing first-half rocket from behind the box to see off Portugal.

Belgium will now face

Roberto Mancini

's

Italy

, who are on a 31-game unbeaten run, in Euro 2020 quarter-final on Friday at the Munich’s Allianz Arena.
