Maldini confirms Donnarumma will leave Milan

AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has confirmed that Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

According to reports in Italy,

Milan

are close to announcing the signing of

Mike Maignan

from

Lille

who is set to become the club’s new goalkeeper, with

Donnarumma

’s contract expiring at the end of June.

The 22-year-old made his debut for Milan at age 16 and has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world.

confirmed that the goalkeeper is leaving the club this summer during a livestream on the official club's Twitch account.

“I think we should thank all the players who contributed to this incredible season,”

said the Rossoneri legend

“Gigio was a leader and often the captain. People sometimes don’t realize what it means to be a professional, it means you must be ready to change club.

“It’s difficult to accept, I realize, but it’s also increasingly difficult to see a career in one team. We must respect those who gave so much to Milan and remember Donnarumma did not lack respect for us.

“It can happen that at times you have to take different paths. I can only wish him the best.”
