The French star has not played for Les Bleus since 2015.
Didier Deschamps
is expected to announce
France
’s squad for the upcoming Euros on Tuesday. According to
L’Equipe,
Karim Benzema
is set to be recalled to the national team for the first time since 2015. Benzema was banned from Les Bleus due to being involved in a blackmail controversy with teammate
Mathieu Valbuena. During recent months, Deschamps has insisted that he won’t change his mind about inviting Benzema. Having featured in 33 La Liga matches for
Real Madrid, the 33-year-old has enjoyed incredible form this season. The striker has scored 22 goals and provided 8 assists for the Blancos as they sit second in La Liga, two points behind
Atletico Madrid. External pressure from major figures within French football, including
Arsene Wenger
, has reportedly persuaded the 52-year-old coach to recall Benzema to the national team. France will play their first Group F match against
Germany
on June 15, before continuing the group stage with battles against
Hungary
and
Portugal
on June 19 and 23.
