Joselu Set for Move to Qatari Club After Madrid Spell

Spanish Striker to Join Al-Ghafara Following Impressive Season with Los Blancos

Spanish striker Joselu, who joined

Real Madrid

on loan from Espanyol last summer following their relegation from La Liga, is set to move to Qatari team Al-Ghafara. Espanyol confirmed on Thursday that Real Madrid has triggered Joselu's €1.5 million (£1.27m/$1.6m) release clause, and Cadena SER reports that the 34-year-old will soon be sold to the Qatari club.

Despite scoring 18 goals in 49 appearances for Real Madrid this season, Joselu will not be staying with the Spanish giants. The arrival of Kylian Mbappe means the Spain international would struggle for game time in Carlo Ancelotti's team. As a result, Madrid has agreed to sell him for the aforementioned price to Al-Ghafara, not making any profit from the deal.

Joselu's career has seen its ups and downs, with the striker struggling for goals during his time at clubs like Newcastle United, Stoke City, Hannover, and Deportivo La Coruna. However, his fortunes changed when he joined Alaves in 2019, where he scored more than 10 goals in each of the last five seasons.

Joselu's immediate future is now set to be in Qatar, where he is reportedly set to earn £7m ($9m) during a two-year stint with Al-Ghafara. Meanwhile, he will hope to feature for Spain as they aim to win Euro 2024 in Germany this month.
