Al-Ahly’s victory tightens the group’s lead in the African Champions League

Hussein El Shahat dazzles and scores the winning goal in the match against Young Africans of Tanzania

The Egyptian club Al-Ahly successfully clinched the top spot in the standings of Group 4 in the African Champions League, after achieving a victory over its guest Young Africans of Tanzania with a score of (1-0) on Friday evening at Cairo Stadium, as part of the last round of the first stage of the championship.

The star Hussein El Shahat, a player for Al-Ahly, continued his brilliant performance, scoring the winning goal for his team in the 46th minute.

Al-Ahly club raised its balance to 12 points, thus occupying the first place in the standings, while Young Africans’ balance froze at 8 points.

The match, in general, was of average performance, as it witnessed attacks from the two teams at some moments, but Al-Ahly was able to achieve superiority and achieve the three points, while it wasted several opportunities to increase the result, continuing its journey to defend the title of the African Champions League.

The match started with exchanges of attacks between the two teams, and although Al-Ahly scored a goal through Percy Tau with a pass from Ali Maaloul, the referee canceled the goal due to offside. For his part, Young Africans advanced attacks, where Aziz Kay shot next to the post, and Mohamed Abdel Monem, Al-Ahly defender, repelled a dangerous cross ball.

Abdel Monem wasted a great opportunity with a header near the post. Ahmed Shobeir, Al-Ahly’s goalkeeper, showed a great performance and saved his team’s goal from a dangerous opportunity for Young Africans. Maaloul responded with a shot above the goal bar before the end of the first half.

Al-Ahly started the second half thanks to Hussein El Shahat’s goal, who started a quick attack with a pass from Maaloul, and received the latter’s pass and shot it into the goal in the 46th minute.

Shobeir saved a real goal for Young Africans from a dangerous header, and Al-Ahly’s defense scattered a quick ball for the Tanzanian team. Al-Ahly responded with a quick attack wasted by El Shahat, then he made the solo shot that the goalkeeper pushed away.

Modeste wasted a close opportunity from a header that the goalkeeper brilliantly pushed away. Al-Ahly made three changes with the participation of Imam Ashour, Wissam Abu Ali, and Taher Mohamed Taher instead of Koka, El Shahat, and Modeste.

A close opportunity for Al-Ahly was wasted from a cross by Maaloul that Abu Ali did not exploit, and Shobeir made a save for a powerful shot, while the duo Mohamed Magdy “Afsha”, and Reda Salim were involved instead of the solo and Percy Tau.

A close attempt from Wissam Abu Ali was wasted, then offside pushed away a dangerous attempt for Taher, and the match witnessed a one-on-one opportunity for Imam Ashour that he strangely wasted with the end of the match with Al-Ahly’s victory.
