Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea rejects contract extension offer

The Spanish Goalkeeper David de Gea has rejected Manchester United's offer of a contract extension.

According to The Athletic,

De Gea

has turned down the first

Manchester United

extension offer. The report claims that the negotiations will continue between both parties.

De Gea’s current contract at Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the season. The 32-year-old goalkeeper currently earns a weekly salary of more than £375,000. Man United has reportedly offered around half of his current salary, but the Spaniard thinks he deserves a better offer. Manchester United manager Eric Ten Hag is satisfied with De Gea’s performances this season and wants him to sign a new contract.

De Gea who joined Man United in 2011 has managed to win five major trophies including the Premier League in 2013. He also has won the Europa League, FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups. The former Atletico Madrid keeper has been named in the PFA team of the year five times.

Manchester United's next game is at St James Park against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday. They are in third place in the table with 50 points after 26 matches. Ten Hag's side already has won the Carabao Cup this season, and they have reached the FA Cup semi-finals and the Europa League quarter-final.
