Real Madrid's Courtois withdrawn from Belgium due to adductor injury

Keeping a clean sheet in Belgium's 3-0 victory over Sweden, Courtois is reportedly forced to withdraw from his country's squad ahead of their international friendly against Germany.

After playing full time against Sweden in Belgium's qualifier for Euro 2024, Thibaut Courtois has reportedly sustained an adductor injury and was sent back to Madrid for further recovery ahead of the Red Devils' international friendly against Germany.

Belgium confirmed the news on

Twitter

, writing: "

Thibaut returned for precaution reasons back to Real Madrid due to a minor strain in the adductor."

Courtois' injury can be shocking for Real Madrid ahead of their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Barcelona and the Champions League quarter-final tie with Chelsea.

Real Madrid is 12 points behind Barcelona in La Liga after a 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou on Sunday. After the game, Courtois admitted that they only have a small chance to win the title this season.

He told LaLiga TV:

"We have to be honest. We will continue fighting, but there are four games difference.

"We have the advantage on goals [on head-to-head record], but it is difficult. Nothing is impossible, but... we will have to come here to win in the Copa del Rey [semi-final]."
