Salihamidzic: "Bayern's chasing Kane despite Choupo-Moting extension"

Bayern confirmed on Saturday that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has signed a one-year contract extension with the Bundesliga champions. However, the Bayern CEO claims the deal won't affect their upcoming transfers.

After losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer, Bayern has been heavily linked with a move for Harry Kane. Although they signed Sadio Mane from Liverpool, Choupo-Moting remained their main striker, scoring 10 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Although Hasan Salihamidzic hopes the Cameroonian striker continues to develop, he insists the contract renewal won't affect their interest in the England captain.

"We're glad we have Choupo. I can't say what will happen in the summer yet,"

he told

.

"First of all, we extended Choupo. I hope he's the same, keep going, keep scoring and then we'll see."

Choupo-Moting joined Bayern Munich in October 2020 on a free transfer, having previously played for PSG. The 33-year-old has performed beyond expectations, scoring 15 goals in 24 matches which got him a new deal at Bayern Munich.

Bayern sits at top of the Bundesliga table after their Saturday 2-1 victory at Stuttgart as they will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
